Two Steps Forward, One Step Backwards...

Finn and Brixton having fun in Austin, Texas!

The good news is that there has been some big progress happening at the home front.  The bad news is that several of our completed projects had to be redone, ugh.  We have had a string of bad luck around here.  When is this torture going to end?????

First, our master bath tile and plumbing was finally completed a few weeks ago.  It was all peachy the first night after the shower plumbing had been installed until we woke up the next morning and saw that the downstairs wall located under the upstairs shower was wet, ugh.  We quickly called our contractor and plumber and within an hour the drywall and insulation was ripped out of the wall and huge fans and dehumidifiers were drying things out.  A connection fitting had broken in the wall and water had been leaking through it all night.  Luckily our plumber was able to fix it right away without having to rip out any of our beautiful tile.  In all his years of plumbing he has never had this happen, just our luck. Anyhow, the damage has all been repaired and here are a few after pics of our bathroom...

We love how the limestone and glass tile looks together and our new Caesarstone counter is fab!

Shortly after this happened Finn and I hopped on a plane to visit friends in Austin, Texas.  His best friend Brixton just moved there with his family last fall.  The two boys met in a swimming pool when they were babies and they had not seen each other in over a year.  it was super fun to get them back together and we had a great time in Austin seeing the sights!

The boys having a reunion lunch at Chuy's.

Getting a cupcake at the Hey Cupcake trailer.

Cruising around Zilker Park.

Cooling off in Barton Springs.

More food truck tasting!

The boys got to drive the Bat boat!

Honey and the boys!

Giant donuts at Gourdoughs, yummy!

Happy hour at the Hotel San Jose on Congress St.

We were able to visit cousins Maggie and Lisa as well who moved to Austin awhile back and they took us out for a fun morning of breakfast and shopping.  We also got to visit friends Jeff and Suzanne that we met through our neighbors back home.  They gave us a great tour of their awesome mid century house.  Thanks to all of our great Austin hosts!

While we were gone, our custom stainless steel stair railing was installed.  It took a full day for the installation.  A bamboo railing piece will be added to the top rails next week and then the cable wires can be tightened once that's done.  Unfortunately, a few days after the railing was installed we realized the grab bar was installed too closely to the wall shown in the bottom pic which has created some issues.  A whole new bar may have to be fabricated again to correct this.  One giant step backwards....

Overall, we love how the metal railings turned out though.  We are hoping to spend this long holiday weekend finishing up some projects and slowly moving some big items from storage into our house.

Here's a pic of Finn posing at our friend's Texas style Bbq.  More pics of the cute bbq party to follow in my next post.  Have a great holiday weekend y'all!

  2. Love all the pictures in Texas! What an exciting trip you both had. Love the master bath! Looks like a bathroom at an upscale hotel in the tropics! The railing is magnificent! Hopefully the problem will be fixed quickly! Have a nice Memorial weekend.
